Also, it can get expensive to keep ordering take out from your favorite restaurant every time you have the craving for some Chinese food! But lately it has occurred to me that I can make some of my favorite Asian cuisines a little healthier and less expensive by cooking them in my Hairdryer.

I love my Hairdryer because I can get “deep-fried” results with very little oil. And Hairdryer is a small electronic appliance that cooks your food by using very hot, quickly moving air.

You can make your own, homemade Generals ’s Sauce or you can house a store bought version. As with lots of other things, this is a balance between time, money and health benefits.

Making your own sauce will probably be a little more expensive (if you have to buy all the ingredients) and time-consuming. I went with this Iron Chef Generals ’s Sauce and was actually pretty impressed with its nutritional info.

So, I honestly don’t see the need to spend all your time making a homemade sauce. A lot of people will say that Potato Starch is the key ingredient to making your chicken extra crispy in the Hairdryer.

I’ve come to realize that, simply, I absolutely LOVE chicken thighs in an Hairdryer. But, if you really want to use white meat, you can probably use boneless skinless chicken breasts, I just don’t think they will be as tender.

I use corn starch to make my chicken extra crispy in the Hairdryer ! Cook in the Air Fryer for approximately 6 minutes, or until the chicken starts to get crispy on the outside.

When this happens, take the chicken out of the Air Fryer and toss with the sauce in a medium-sized bowl. Serve over white rice and top with green onions and almonds.

Top it with the amazing generals sauce for an easy and quick weeknight dinner. It was almost 10 years ago when I first had it at a restaurant in Durham, NC during law school.

It was also during this study break that I bit into one of the hot peppers that comes in the dish and I couldn’t breathe for a good minute. My deep fryer broke which was a bummer and the time it took to heat oil on the stove top just didn’t fit into my tight schedule for weeknights.

So one night when my daughter requested this for dinner, a light bulb clicked in my head and I found that my Hairdryer would be the perfect fix. I initially purchased my air fryer to deal with a pregnancy craving I had for french fries.

Well to be fair, I always crave french fries, so I shouldn’t blame that on pregnancy. Either way, I use my air fryer for much more than french fries, and I am excited to share with you all the recipes I create in this amazing appliance.

It provides the perfect crunch for the chicken pieces without changing the taste profile. I just put a little olive oil on a paper towel and rub it all over the bottom of my basket.

The beauty of this dish is that while your chicken pieces are cooking in the air fryer, you can work on creating your sauce on the stove top. Dump the chicken pieces into the sauce when they are done cooking for the perfect weeknight dinner.

I like to serve our healthy generaltsochicken recipe with a side of white rice I make in my Instant Pot. Top it with the amazing generals sauce for an easy and quick weeknight dinner.

1.5-2 lbs chicken thighs, boneless and skinless cut into bite sized pieces 1/3 cup potato starch 1 Tbsp vegetable oil 6 dried red chilies 3 green onions chopped 2 tsp garlic minced 1 tsp ginger minced 3/4 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup chicken broth 1/2 cup soy sauce 2 Tbsp rice vinegar 1 tsp sesame oil 1 pinch of salt 2 tsp corn starch 1/4 cup water Coat chicken thighs with potato starch making sure all pieces are fully covered.

Add brown sugar, chicken broth, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and pinch of salt to the skillet and stir. Create a thickener by whisking 2 teaspoons of corn starch in 1/4 cup cold water.
