There’s one thing to keep in mind and that’s the component’s non-stick coating which may flake or peel completely if they aren’t cleaned with care. But if you’re anything like me, then you like to be certain of things before you actually proceed with the task at hand, and all this to minimize the risk of making a big mistake.
For you, I have created a table of all the air fryers which are (according to the manufacturer) safe to put in the dishwasher. Now, remember, when I say that the air fryer is safe to put in the dishwasher I’m actually talking about the removable components, mainly the basket.
The pan and the divider aren’t quite as big as the basket and can, therefore, be placed in both the bottom and top drawer of the dishwasher. For tougher stains, such as baked-on grease, you would think that the answer would be to purchase some kind of special detergent but it isn’t.
The thought of cooking for my family in an appliance that is dirty doesn’t appeal to me at all, and considering how easy air fryers are to clean I can’t justify not doing it. With that said, I don’t put my air fryer components in the dishwasher after every single time I’ve used them.
Sometimes, depending on what type of food I’m cooking, it may be easier to just wipe the components, including the inside of the air fryer and the drawer with a paper towel. However, if you’re cooking battered foods you will most likely need to place them in the dishwasher or soak them in warm water and soap in order to get rid of the grease.
Stains and grease that is left on the air fryer will toughen and demand much more work to get rid of. Air fryers are a fantastic tool that can make life easier for preparing a variety of different meals in a quick and efficient amount of time.
Many people purchase these appliances because they simply don’t have time to make dinner for their family each night, or because they might not be the greatest cooks and these tools help them improve. You can end up with many dirty pans, grimy utensils, and grease coated on everything around the fryer.
Extending its life starts with cleaning it properly, event when you don’t feel like it. Yes the cooking vessels are dishwasher safe in the sense that they won’t fall apart or melt in your dishwasher.
Wash the pan, tray, and basket with hot water and liquid dish soap. Clean in the inside of the air fryer with hot water and a cloth or sponge.
Make sure the pan, tray, and basket are completely dry before putting them back into the air fryer. To clean an air fryer, simply wipe it out with a wet cloth.
If you have some more stubborn grease and baked on food, you should soak your air fryer ’s cooking compartment with dish soap and boiling water. Leave it for 15-20 minutes and wipe off the dirt and oil with a wet cloth.
Try not to use anything abrasive or harsh, as this will likely destroy your air fryer ’s often delicate non-stick coating. Check your air fryer ’s manual or contact the manufacturer to be 100% sure about your particular model.
Now let’s go into this answer in greater depth, and find out all the nitty-gritty details! Food from a previous batch may have gotten stuck to the air fryer ’s heating element, which could start to burn and smoke if not cleaned.
If you allow oil and burnt food to build up and almost encrust your air fryer, it would be harder to clean. This would probably lead to you trying to scrub your air fryer with abrasive cleaning products.
And don’t just pour this oil down the sink, as you could end up with a nasty blockage over time. If you find that your air fryer is filthy, you can pour in a mixture of dish soap and boiling water.
Another option would be to soak your air fryer ’s basket in a vinegar based solution before washing it. Also, make sure to regularly use a damp cloth to wipe any debris off of the heating element on your air fryer.
Any build up of oil or grime on there could smoke or even decrease your air fryer ’s performance. Trust me, if you do, you will end up with a peeling and flaking non-stick coating on your air fryer.
Sometimes, even if the air fryer is detailed as being dishwasher safe, using a dishwasher can present some problems. If your air fryer has a particularly low quality non-stick coating, you may find that it starts to peel off.
Air fryer baskets sometimes also have rubber seals on them too, which might get washed away in a dishwasher. We can do a quick audit of the main air fryer brands, to see if they claim their air fryers as dishwasher safe.
Of course these are general comments made by brand, we still recommend checking for your exact model of air fryer. On their current standalone air fryer model, Ninja do mention that their basket, crisper plate, and multi-layer rack are all dishwasher safe.
I also checked one of their hybrid air fryer / pressure cooker models, and found an informative video that shows that the cooking pot and main accessories are dishwasher safe. On the cheesy promotional video below they state that “both the baskets are dishwasher safe ”.
I saw that they mentioned in a product description on Amazon that the air fryer basket is dishwasher safe. Dash state in the product listing of their 6 quart air fryer, that all non-electric parts are dishwasher safe.
AMORC is a fairly unheard of brand for air fryers, but they are starting to get popular, so I thought I would include them here! On their product listings, they usually state that all Power Fryer XL accessories are dishwasher safe.
Although interestingly enough in the video below from Philips, there is no mention of any parts of their air fryer being dishwasher safe. I have owned air fryers for many years now, and I have never found clean up an issue.
Over the years, I definitely feel that my air fryer is among the easier kitchen appliances to clean! From my own personal point of view, I would never recommend putting any air fryer parts into a dishwasher.
It is a question that I get asked occasionally and one that often leads to some confusion. All manufacturers…including Philips, Ninja, Power, Color, Dash etc will refer to their air fryers as dishwasher safe.
I just need to clarify before we go into depth on the issue, that the manufacturers are NOT talking about the whole air fryer unit. That essentially means the air fryer basket and the pull out tray.
The simple answer is that you can clean your air fryer basket in your dishwasher. The problem is this…your dishwasher normally uses very hot water to get your dishes clean.
It may well start to flake of which means at this point; it is no longer safe to use. I understand that it is more work for me but I then justify it as it increases the life of my air fryer basket.
Simply use a sponge and mildly hot water to clean. It is simple and effective, cleaning your air fryer basket properly.
If the grease on it is particularly stubborn or baked on, you can use a paste made of bicarbonate of soda to clear it. Simply put some lemon juice int to bottom of it and leave for 30 minutes, before you wash it.
Indeed, my recommendation is that you hand wash them for the reasons I have outlined above. Ultimately, the choice is yours…convenience at the cost of lifespan or a product that you can keep in great condition for much longer.
