You can use it to cook things ON or IN and nothing sticks to it and no pots or pans get dirty. You can use it for package cooking, what the French call en Papillae, and not just for fish.

Now, it is even possible to buy preformed packages so you don’t have to do the fancy folding technique that is used for fish en Papillae. This fact leads people to make a common erroneous statement about it: Parchment paper will not burn.

It is thin, so the flame is not so very high, but it wasn’t so easy to put out. Any adjacent flammable items could have easily been lit by this little fire.

You may have read, perhaps in old books about ancient history, of people writing things on parchment. Parchment is something that came before paper, which the Chinese invented, and after such things as papyrus, which people always associated with Ancient Egypt.

This parchment was made from animal skins like pig, antelope, goat, sheep, or cow. Later, in the late 1800s and early 1900s (perhaps earlier), people began experimenting with treating cloth and paper to be used for special purposes.

This early stuff probably bore little resemblance to modern parchment paper, but it was semi-transparent and durable. How much heat it can actually withstand depends on the specific conditions you use it under.

Parchment paper may be heat-resistant, but it is not flame retardant! Then, depending on the angle (orientation) of the paper, it propagated the flame very quickly.

If it gets hot enough, it could flame up, and will, at least, begin smoking and turning black. If it comes into contact with a flame or heating element, you’ll have a fire.

Should something cause the parchment paper to touch the flame or heating element, such as a draft, you could end up with a kitchen fire. I allowed a sheet of parchment paper that was sitting on a baking tray on one side of the stove to touch the gas flame I was using.

It went up like a Roman Candle and by the time I got it over to the sink, the paper was burning like a torch. There is a big difference between a materials' ability to withstand ambient heat and its ability to withstand exposure to actual fire.

Remember when I mentioned lining the bottom of a cake pan with parchment paper? In fact, I hate making cakes but my son is always asking for cake, so… Anyway, all you have to do is place a sheet of parchment paper on a cutting surface (like a cutting board), place the cake pan on top of it, bottom side down, and carefully cut paper out around the edge of the pan using an Exact knife or another razor bladed knife (carpet knife, utility knife, box cutter).

Make sure to hold down the cake pan well so it won’t slip while your cutting. It won’t take the heat and it will smoke and the wax will get melty and all sorts of trouble will ensue.

But, you CAN use wax paper to line the bottom of a cake pan! The cake won’t stick to the wax paper and it will work like a charm.

As we prepare for the busy baking season ahead for the holidays we wanted to finally get this post live. Our post is going to help you make excellent bakeware purchases for your kitchen.

So, give me a minute to talk about why we love unglazed stoneware from Pampered Chef first. If you are interested in being notified when the stoneware is back in stock, please to subscribe.

Not just that, but stoneware’s superior heat retention makes it perfect for transferring something right from the over to serving the meal. Stoneware is great for keeping your food warm during meals.

I’ve owned some of my baking stones for 15 years and the flavor of one dish never transfers to another. If you are interested in being notified when the stoneware is back in stock, please to subscribe.

I LOVE the flexibility of using our stoneware, especially this small stone bar pan for only $25. B y the way, the brand-new stoneware that has just been released can now be heated up to 550 degrees.

When you purchase products that are made here, you are helping to sustain and strengthen our economy for generations to come. If you are interested in being notified when the stoneware is back in stock, please to subscribe.

All the Pampered Chef Stoneware is made from natural clay that is mined here in the United States. When the stones are fired at over 2,000 °F, the clay produces a light colored Stoneware that is unaffected by moisture and completely safe for use with food.

My very favorite kitchen tool is this stoneware baking pan. Yes, it can be a bit pricey… but you have to decide if it’s worth the long term investment.

I’ve had this same unglazed bar pan from Pampered Chef for over 15 years and still use it, worry-free, to this day. This stone bar pan fits in most countertop ovens and is our go-to when heating or reheating small amounts of food.

We love the unglazed cooking surface because it is not only non-toxic but always pulls the moisture away from your baked goods and frozen foods turn out light and crispy. #1:A number of stainless steel baking pans have been dipped in an aluminum coating.

The only surface we would suggest baking directly on would be ceramic stoneware. #2: Stainless steel snot the best option for conducting heat uniformly and consequently your cookie recipes might not turn out the way you expect.

To include toxic non-stick chemicals which are often done to improve the cooking performance of the stainless steel cookie sheet. However, you can always cover your stainless steel cookie sheets with unbleached parchment paper, which will help prevent aluminum and other toxins from leaching onto your food.

Just in case you missed my healthy holiday cookie recipes earlier this week, here are my 3 favorite: Pampered Chef Stoneware is temporarily out of stock as they catch up on back orders.
