Are hole cutouts for taps in sinks a standard size? Member Hi all, I am looking for a new mixer tap for my stainless steel twin tub kitchen sink.

The reason I'm asking is I upgraded my 600 mm wide stove top a few years ago and I thought the cutout in my bench top was a standard size ...boy was I wrong. 4K Club Member Not sure if they are standard but the mixers are normally attached in a way that they fit fairly universally.

As long as the sink is a fairly modern one that came with the hole PRE punched it shouldn't be a problem 1K Club Member 95 per cent are 35 mm, some fancy pull out spray taps can be a larger diameter.

We have U or F shaped available in top or side levers, or spring-neck and pull-out options if your sink is often full of plates and pots that need cleaning. If you don’t have a dishwasher, these options are perfect as they make it so much simpler to shift any grime.

Single levers make it super easy to control the water flow and temperature with one hand, whilst our twin levers allow you to mix in hot and cold water separately, depending on which you’d prefer. It’s a good idea to coordinate the metal elements in your kitchen, like cabinet handles and appliances.

If you have a single-lever tap, the only working part that might need replacing (if you have dripped or flow issues) is the cartridge. This requires a little more know-how and tools than replacing an aerator, so be sure to turn off your stopcock and look up a tutorial before you start work.

If yours is drilled through a thick wooden worktop or similar beware, not all taps can accommodate this as the fixing bolts aren't always long enough. Also note that the cheap eBay one requires a minimum supply pressure of 1 bar, this includes the hot and as such it is only suitable if you're running off a comb boiler or unvented cylinder, a standard hot water cylinder will not work with it.

I searched fleabag including description and got a few more options, about 200 with 0.2 bar minimum. I don't know which one is £463, I'd say the ones with a pull-out nozzle are generally around half that, for example http://www.sinks- taps .com/default.a...or=fruitless=France+ARIA+Pull-Out+ Kitchen +Tap That one you've linked to almost certainly won't attach through your worktop, the thread on the bottom will be too short I think.

Indeed, the worktop is 4 cm thick, and the thread on that doesn't look 4 cm long, I may be wrong but I wouldn't want to risk it, same goes for the new one you've posted if it comes with the fixing kit in the top picture as opposed to the one further down, which may fit. Would be worth asking the question, the second one looks better although it has very small-bore flexible pipes which you may find give poor flow, especially on the hot.

The only thing I'm unsure of is the dimension of the existing hole, and the size required. One of my good friends suggested that I write about faucet hole sizes for kitchens and bathrooms.

What are the standard faucet hole sizes for kitchens and bathrooms? The standard faucet hole sizes for kitchens and bathrooms are 1 3/8 (1.375 Inches or 34.925 mm) in diameter unless otherwise mentioned in the specification.

However, faucet holes may vary in size depending on the particular make and model. Thus, I have detailed out important information about faucet hole sizes and configurations.

Moreover, the information presented is this article pertains to kitchen and bathroom faucets. Faucet hole sizes may differ from the standard 1 3/8 depending on the particular make and model.

To illustrate, below you will find a random list of bathroom and kitchen faucets. In the table below, I have listed the hole size and maximum deck thickness for each model.

Transport Cumbersome Size Max Deck Thickness Moen7594ESRS1 1/42 1/2American Standard 4175.300.0021 3/82Delta759-CZ-DST1 1/4 to 1 1/23KrausKEF-15000ORB1 3/8 1 3/8KrausKPF-1602SS1 3/81 3/8BellevuePB-K07CP1 3/8 to 1 1/21 5/8Moen7185C1 1/2 2 1/2Delta9178-RB-DST1 3/8 2 1/2Delta567LF-PP1 1/4 to 1 1/22 1/4KohlerK-560-VS 1 5/16 2 1/2As you see in the above table, the standard faucet hole tends to be 1 3/8 with a slight variation among different models. And, the workaround may result in damaging the faucet hole area of the basin.

Thus, it is important to find out the maximum deck thickness for a particular faucet. The best way to measure the inside diameter of the faucet hole is to use a Slide Caliper.

(Source: www.qssupplies.co.uk)

Thus, using this tool to measure faucet holes would yield in accurate results. Slide the caliper out and the reading indicated would be the size of the faucet hole in diameter.

Furthermore, the standard faucet hole drilling are Single-Hole, Center set, Mini spread or Widespread. Yet, if the basin is already drilled with extra holes, escutcheon plates can cover them up.

The Wall-mounted faucets don’t sit on the sink as their counterparts but are mounted on to the wall. One, to exchange the recently purchased faucet with one that matches the configuration.

Or, to increase the hole size to accommodate the purchased faucet. Thus, it would be wise to refer to the specification to find out the maximum deck thickness.

The number of holes required for a faucet installation depends on the type of fixture. Choose the appropriate bit for the hole and use a power drill with a guide to do the job.

My current one has a big base, 19 mm circumference and I've been looking for a tap of the same size. There is a lot of limescale around it and if I replace the tap with something with a smaller base it would not look good.

Don't want to replace the tap if the job doesn't look good. Your measurements are way out .no tap base has a circumference of those stated.

I cannot see under the sink, will call a plumber to replace the tap. I can hear the sound of a head banging on a wall Terry.

Wanted to get one of the same size as limescale cannot be eliminated completely. There are some taps of this size but not often, so price and style cannot be chosen.

If it's awful, give several applications, check any specific usage details on label and use advice When the plumber arrives, just explain you'd like to give the sink and extra scrub once old tap removed.

I already saw 100 taps and counting... and they either smaller, or the size is not provided and can't be measured for online ones. I'll start removing the limescale tomorrow and keep going, that my solve the problem.

Post a picture of your current tap please, may well help to sort out Is there anything actually wrong with the tap other than the limescale? If not it seems like a lot of hassle.

I would try to get as much off as you can with something that will not damage the metal- plastic scraper etc then do as above with repeated applications of limescale remover. The circumference of the top of the tap (I put a pound on it) is bigger than that at the bottom (which is 19 cm).

Now you can see the limescale... although the leak is why I want to replace the tap. Could be way off here but the black washer / sealing ring looks smaller than the base of the tap, it also looks thick enough to raise the base over the drainage ridge.

Good morning The sealing ring (the black washer that cannot be seen from the outside?) I think a standard size tap would do, I just hope the sink area can be cleaned perfectly, as it would not be nice to have a shiny tap surrounded by limescale.
