Cooking bacon in the oven is the classic move, and it's a great one, but we are here to tell you to give the air fryer a chance. The air fryer makes the crispiest bacon of all time without all the crazy amounts of grease.

But how does the air fryer fare with foods that don't require oil to cook due to their high-fat content, like say, bacon ? Don't get me wrong, I love the air fryer as much as the next person, but here I'll argue that there are simply better methods for cooking bacon.

Instead, they work by circulating hot air around food, much like a convection oven. Food is gloriously crisped on the outside and cooked through on the inside without the added oil.

But what's more problematic about cooking bacon in the air fryer is the fact that it's highly likely you'll end up with a burnt, smoky mess. Here's why: Bacon doesn't require any excess oil or butter to cook because it's so full of fat.

Some folks suggest adding water to the air fryer drawer to help reduce any smoking, but adding water to hot oil is a safety hazard, as it can expand and cause hot oil to spray in all directions. All this being said, I understand the appeal of cooking bacon in an air fryer, since you would expect to have far less of a mess than you would with the traditional stove top method.

But if you're looking to avoid a greasy mess, I'd suggest going with the oven method, especially for large batches. Open the air fryer basket and check for any burning oil that may need to be dumped.

Transfer cooked bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to soak up the excess grease. 01/16/2019 This has potential but as written you will end up with very burnt bacon.

I went ahead and experimented with the entire pound package. The basket only holds a few pieces at a time so this was quite a lengthy test.

Another helpful hint is to cut your bacon pieces in half prior to putting them in the basket. 07/14/2019 this recipe makes Almost Burnt Bacon.

350 cook 6 flip then 4 more I feel is perfect. Not gummy at all crispy without the meat overcooking and becoming tough.

Add water to the bottom to prevent the smoke detector from telling your neighbors it's bacon time. After several tests, I settled on 3 minutes on each side at 390 degrees.

That is cooking 5 half strips at a time. Trade off is the multiple batches required if you're cooking a whole pound of bacon.

I'm sure time cooked varies based on different air frying ovens. Still, quicker easier and less mess than conventional pan frying.

08/22/2020 This was demolish and the perfect method for the air fryer ! The only thing I switched up was that I sprinkled some brown sugar on top of the bacon about halfway through.

I also recommend cutting package in half and placing the 1/2 strips around the basket with minimal overlap. Check with 2-3 min remaining and turn, toss, or shake up as needed for most even cooking.

You’re going to love this quick and easy method for making perfect bacon ! Almost a decade ago I posted a tutorial on how to bake bacon in the oven.

Pour water into the bottom of your air fryer to minimize smoke. Place bacon in a single layer into the preheated air fryer basket.

Feel free to cut bacon in half to make it fit better. Place a small amount of water in the drawer of the air fryer that the basket sits in.

General rule of thumb, the thicker the bacon, the longer it will need. For even cooking, place only a single layer of bacon in your air fryer basket.

When you overlap bacon or just pile it in there, it won’t cook evenly at all. To keep smoke at bay, place some water in the bottom of the air fryer.

Pour ¼ cup of water into the bottom of the air fryer to minimize smoke. Place bacon in a single layer into the preheated air fryer basket.

So, to see what would happen when air -frying one of the most beloved breakfast foods of all time, I used a Philips Digital Air fryer ($200) and a package of bacon to find out. But looks can be deceiving; the taste test would reveal the bacon's true tastiness or not.

Remarkably, the bacon had a thin, crisp exterior that yielded to a fatty, chewy interior. I poured the extra bacon grease into a dish for later (it too was pure fat with no black char bits that you find when cooking bacon in an oven or on a stove top) and proceeded to scrub down the drawer, which proved to be an easy feat.

I’m a huge fan of baking bacon in the oven because you can make a large quantity at once, there’s much less mess compared to frying it on the stove, and it’s a pop-it-in-and-forget it kind of thing. The air fryer cooks the bacon up really quickly and nice and crisp.

And I’ve found that air fryers are really easy to wipe or rinse clean and move on. It cooks things quickly, it’s easy to use, and everything comes out super crispy.

Drain the grease from the cooked bacon before starting a second batch. Simple directions on how to make bacon in the air fryer which is very quick, less messy than traditional frying, and super crispy.

Place the bacon halves on the rack that came with the air fryer (so they aren’t sitting directly on the bottom) in an even layer. If the bacon moves or curls while cooking, simply use tongs to keep everything in a single layer.

Not only does the air fryer lessen the mess, it makes the most uniformly crispy bacon I’ve ever had. Place the bacon in the air fryer basket in a single layer.

An air fryer is a kitchen appliance that cooks by circulating hot air around the food using the convection mechanism. A mechanical fan circulates the hot air around the food at high speed, cooking the food and producing a crispy layer via browning reactions of two kinds (Millard and Schiff).

In caramelization, sugars break down and chemically transform into complex brown-colored substances, while in the Millard reaction, typically seen where meat is roasted or stir-fried, the carbohydrates/sugars and proteins in a food react with each other to form Schiff bases, which then form other flavorful compounds. For me, I like fat and cook with fat and oil all the time from animal sources (butter, ghee, lard, and tallow) or unrefined, organic nut or vegetable oils (like avocado, olive, and coconut oil).

I can make bacon without the greasy mess and splatters compared to cooking it in a pan on a stove top. And you know I enjoy making bacon in the oven (it’s so easy this way) but it does take at least 15 minutes for my oven to heat up, plus another 20 minutes to cook the bacon.

The air fryer heats up instantly, so if you’re in a rush or short on time you can get bacon done and ready to eat in about 10 minutes. I find bacon in the oven (because it cooks in its own lard) has a richer, fattier texture, which we actually really like in our family.

Bacon in the air fryer (because it’s cooked on a rack that drains the fat) comes out crunchier, with less of that fatty texture. Cooking bacon is one of those tasks that sounds simple on paper but then ends up smoking out your kitchen and leaving a greasy trail around your counter tops.

The baskets make shaking your food simple and fast as well, and the unit doesn’t lose a lot of heat when you open it. The bacon comes out beautifully crisp and with virtually no mess, plus the air fryer is easy to clean.

Make sure to spread the bacon in a single layer for best results. This Crispy AirFryerBacon recipe is one of the easiest ways ever to make bacon.

Airfryerbacon wrapped little smokes is a classic recipe cooked up in the air fryer. Crispy bacon wrapped around a cocktail smoke coated in brown sugar and spice.

Wrap one bacon piece around each little smoke and place back on pan. Place brown sugar, black pepper and garlic salt in a large bag or bowl.
