Cover with plenty of cold water and bring to the boil over medium- high heat. Reduce heat to medium and simmer, uncovered, skimming the surface occasionally, for 2 hours or until silver side is tender.

Place corned beef brisket, fat side up, into a slow cooker ; sprinkle with pickling spice. Rub the rolled silver side joint with the beef dripping and sprinkle with plenty of salt and pepper.

Put the joint into a roasting tin and into the hot oven for 15 minutes to brown. Corned Beef is a cut of meat (brisket) that has been cured (or pickled) in a seasoned brine.

When cooked at a boil for too long, corned beef is likely to turn out tough and chewy, rather than soft and tender. Place corned beef in large pot or Dutch oven and cover with water.

Like any beef, it’s high in fat, so limit your portion and enjoy every bite! Place corned beef, fat side up, on top of vegetables and sprinkle with pickling spice; add enough water to almost cover meat (4 to 6 cups).

Stove top: Rinse the brisket, place in a stockpot (or any large pot) and add water to cover. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer for about 2½ to 3 hours or until meat is fork-tender.

If your corned beef is submerged in water, beer, cider or another liquid, it will cook more quickly than it would in dry heat. This has been a family staple since I was a little girl, this is a super easy version that results in tender fall apart meat.

All I have used is a little brown sugar, a splash of malt vinegar and topping up with water, almost to cover the meat. I always rinse the corned beef well before I add it to the slow cooker, this reduces the salt content of the final product.

This relatively tough cut of meat will be transformed into a tender and delicious main course. Try any combination of brown sugar, vinegar, bay leaves, cloves, peppercorns, mustard seed and allspice.

Gently pour water or beef broth, or a combination of both, into the slow cooker. Add the cabbage wedges, if using, to the slow cooker during the last 45 minutes that the meat is cooking.

I highly recommend picking up or ordering an already-cured brisket from your butcher to save you some time and trouble. If you’d like to make this corned beef completely from scratch, start with these curing instructions.

Using a pointy knife or metal skewer, stab the brisket to create channels for the brine to saturate. Once everything has dissolved, let the mixture cool to room temperature then transfer to the fridge until completely cold.

The hardest part will be waiting while your house fills with incredible smells. Cook the brisket: Place the corned beef in the slow cooker, fat side up.

Add the rest of the ingredients to your slow cooker and pour 2 cups water over the beef. Finish and serve: Carefully remove the beef from your slow cooker.

Prick the fatty side of the beef brisket with a fork to ensure our liquid and spices penetrate the meat fully. Slice up your corned beef against the grain, this will ensure that each bite is perfectly tender and scrumptiously juicy.
